Staying at the Paris IAS

Legal status and compensation

Following the compensation model often adopted by institutes for advanced studies, the Paris IAS offers its fellows a compensation to cover the extra costs related to their stay in France. The proposed compensation varies depending on the Call for Applications and the Research Program.

When applications are selected, the Institute’s Secretary General contacts the successful applicants to give information on the legal, administrative, and financial aspects of their stay and to define the contractual terms based on the general conditions laid out in the Call for Applications.

Research facilities

Facilities

During their stay, fellows will have an office at the Paris IAS headquarters (Hôtel de Lauzun) with a computer, Internet access, and printer. The Paris IAS provides meeting rooms, and lunch can be purchased at the Institute’s canteen.

Support for scientific activities

Fellows can receive material and financial support for their work and research activities. This includes the organisation of scientific events (colloquia, workshops, or conferences), research-related travel, and translation and publication for their research texts.

Access to partner research libraries

The Paris IAS and its partner institutions have signed agreements enabling fellows to enjoy special access and borrowing privileges in the main research libraries of ParisParis.

Communication and promotion

Through its website and monthly newsletter, the Paris IAS reports on the scientific events and publications involving its guest researchers. Each fellow has a page on the Institute’s website to give a brief presentation of his/her background and research project.

Housing

Since September 2017, the Paris IAS fellows have been hosted at the Pavillon Victor Lyon, located at the heart of the international university campus in Paris. The residence can accomodate visiting researchers with their families. Around twenty apartments, from 2 to 5 rooms, and fully equipped are for Paris IAS fellows.
Designed as a living space, a place where international researchers can meet and exchange, the Pavillon Victor Lyon is next door to the other students and researchers residences on campus. Facilities available at the residence include a 103 m² library and sitting room, a 100 m² conference room and a 80 m² meeting-room.

Help with administrative tasks and obtaining visas

The Paris IAS is in contact with the Paris Préfecture de Police to provide future fellows with all the documents that they need to obtain a visa from the French Consulate of their home country.
