Initiatives and regulations to support sustainable development

On 12 January 2026, from 9:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., a workshop entitled "Initiatives and Regulations to Support Sustainable Development" will be held, organised by Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University and the Paris Institute for Advanced Studies (Paris IAS), as part of the 2025 Chair of Excellence held by Maria Nadia Postorino, professor at the University of Bologna and 2025-2026 fellow at the Paris IAS (One Health, Sustainability, European Studies in HSS chair with Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne), on the theme of Sustainability within the UNA Europa alliance.

Presentation

Sustainability is a key principle in global scientific, economic, and political debates. It is based on the idea that development should meet the needs of the present generations without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, while maintaining a balance between environmental, economic, and social dimensions. This workshop, which completes the set of workshops on sustainability organized as part of the chair, will focus on regulatory frameworks and initiatives – either already implemented or currently under consideration – designed to support sustainable development.

The workshop, led by the Chair holder Maria Nadia Postorino, will bring together researchers from Paris 1 and partner universities of the alliance from various disciplines to discuss the multiple facets of sustainability:
