Online conference by William Seales, Professor of Computer Science, Stanley and Karen Pigman Chair of Heritage Science and at the University of Kentucky, and fellow for a one-month writing residency at the Paris IAS, with the PostGenAI@Paris cluster, as part of the "Paris IdeAS" series.

The "Paris IdeAS" online talk series features short and stimulating presentations from fellows of the Paris Institute for Advanced Study, marking the beginning of 1-month writing residencies.

The PostGenAI@Paris is coordinated by coordinated by Sorbonne Université. The Paris IAS welcomes international researchers to support them in their research on artificial intelligence, its impact on our societies and the prospects it offers for the future.

Presentation

At PostGenAI@Paris, this project will develop analytical, generative, and explainable artificial intelligence (AI) methods for heritage science. Building on digital restoration, it aims to narrow gaps between damaged artifacts and what can be restored, and between fragmented context and holistic understanding.

By addressing AI explainability alongside provenance and authenticity, the work seeks to deepen understanding of cultural heritage, reveal shared human experience, and expand societal value of AI in the humanities.
