Online conference by Cyrus Shahabi, Professor of Computer Science, Electrical & Computer Engineering, and Spatial Sciences; Helen N. and Emmett H. Jones Professor of Engineering; Director of the Integrated Media Systems Center (IMSC) at the University of Southern California (USC), and fellow for a one-month writing residency at the Paris IAS in October 2026, as part of the "Paris IdeAS" series.

The "Paris IdeAS" online talk series features short and stimulating presentations from fellows of the Paris Institute for Advanced Study, marking the beginning of 1-month writing residencies.

Presentation

This research project examines how digital mobility data and artificial intelligence can reveal “patterns of life”: the routines, places, and social interactions that shape everyday experience. It explores how these patterns can deepen understanding of health, social connection, and well-being, while also raising questions about privacy, consent, bias, and surveillance.

The project will propose a framework for interpreting such data responsibly and within its broader human and social context.
