Café Paris Recherche welcomes Carola Hein for a conversation about her research on water, heritage, and the transformation of territories.

Carola Hein is a professor and holds the chair in the history of architecture and urban planning at Delft University of Technology. She also teaches at Leiden University and Erasmus University Rotterdam. She holds the UNESCO Chair "Water, Ports and Historic Cities" and directs the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus PortCityFutures Centre. For the 2026–2027 academic year, she is a fellow-researcher at the Paris Institute for Advanced Study (Paris IAS), holding the "City of Paris" Chair.

This meeting, organized as part of the new Café Paris Recherche series, focuses on Carola Hein's work on the history of water management and the heritage of hydraulic systems in Paris and its region. Her research examines the history of these systems, the uses of water, and the spatial, social, and cultural relationships built around this resource. It explores the connections between historical legacy, contemporary water management, and future transformations of territories.
