Présentation :

What does it mean to be a “disciple” of a philosopher? What are the features of a philosophical school? What is an –ism in philosophy? At what point of the reception of an author can we decide if this author was a “great philosopher” of a “classic”? During this conference I will follow the lines of force of my latest book, Après Bergson. Portrait de groupe avec philosophe (Paris, PUF, 2015) and I will try to give some answers to those questions taking into account the case of the fortune of Henri Bergson’s text in Twentieth Century French philosophy. I will finally give some hints about the way in which the conceptual instruments of the social sciences may help us in doing a better history of philosophy and, maybe, a better philosophy.
