Olivier Bouin has over 20 years’ experience in the development of institutes for advanced studies.

Since 2007, he has headed the scientific cooperation foundation “Réseau français des instituts d’études avancées” and has coordinated the European (NETIAS) and global (UBIAS) networks of institutes for advanced study since 2010 and 2021 respectively. Since 2014, he has co-chaired the International Panel on Social Progress (IPSP). He has led four European MSCA COFUND projects since 2010. He was a member of, and subsequently chaired, the Board of Directors of the European Alliance for Social Sciences and Humanities (EASSH) in Brussels (2015–2021) and served as Vice-President of the Fondazione Collegio Carlo Alberto in Turin (2020–2023).

In 2020, he co-founded the World Pandemic Research Network (WPRN), of which he was co-director. An economist, he served as an administrator at the OECD and subsequently held posts for the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Czech Republic, the United States and Italy.

Olivier Bouin joined the Paris IAS in June 2026 as Executive Director; he is responsible for institutional and academic policy and for developing partnerships with universities and other institutions.
