Webinar organized in preparation for the Positive Future competition, by Victor V. Motti, Director of the World Futures Studies Federation

While representations of dystopian futures are numerous, there is also a great deal of research and foresight work drawing positive alternatives for tomorrow's world. The Institut d'études avancées de Paris and the Fondation 2100, in partnership with the Institute for Futures Studies, are launching the first "Positive Future" competition in order to encourage, on this positive basis, the elaboration and dissemination of mobilizing imaginaries that convincingly and realistically describe a liveable and desirable world. The Positive Future team will propose scientific events, webinars, and online conferences to feed the reflections of the contest participants.

Presentation of the webinar

The art and science of futures studies help us obtain a better understanding of the drivers of change by focusing on Long Term, Big Picture and Radical Change: for example, Tech Revolutions (Biohacking plus Artificial Intelligence), Social Upheavals (Massive Access to Free Education/Tools of Production), Business Disruptions (End of Banking), Major Transformations (Post Plastic Society). Drivers of change are factors causing change, affecting or shaping the futures.

In this webinar, Victor V. Motti will do a review of some drivers of change such as data, clean energy, automation, green economy, and silver tsunami. He will also report from a global survey of experts on Society and Lifestyles in 2050. The expert sample of the survey was selected from authors of the articles in the leading futures and foresight journals. This survey shows us how a decentralized and autonomous futurescape is emerging in areas such consumption of food and manufactured goods, and infrastructure: housing and mobility.

Victor V. Motti is an international writer, speaker, and strategic foresight adviser. He is Director of the World Futures Studies Federation (WFSF) since 2017 and Managing Editor of the European Journal of Futures Research (EJFR) published by Springer. He has been a guest speaker at international conferences in Europe, Africa and Asia, speaking on key transitions at planetary and regional levels for the 2030, 2050 and 2060 horizons. He was the recipient of the WFSF President’s Outstanding Young Futurist Award in 2013. His 2019 book published in the UK is titled Alternative Planetary Futures_._
