Leslie-Anne Duvic-Paoli's project offers a conceptual account of the role of citizens’ assemblies in the design of environmental law. Citizens’ assemblies on climate change are deliberative forums which bring together citizens representative of a country’s society to develop recommendations on emissions reduction. Building on empirical work undertaken on twelve nation-wide climate assemblies held to date, the study explores the fundamental question of the relationship between citizens’ assemblies, the state and the law.
