Talk by Nikita Basov, 2023-24 Paris IAS fellow, as for the macro-sociology research conference at Humboldt University, Berlin.

This conference will take place in Berlin, Germany.

Presentation

In this talk, Nikita Basov will showcase the use of the Networks of Networks framework (Koskinen et al., 2023) to study ideas as ensembles of symbolic structures related via social structures. The talk will present multilevel exponential random graph models of socio-symbolic networks around Edmund Husserl, the founder of phenomenological tradition in philosophy. Preliminary findings show that, even though philosophers tend to distinguish from each other in their terminologies and how they combine terms, social ties stimulate them to overcome their differences and share some basic elements of their ideational meanings.
