Online conference by Nada Moumtaz, Associate Professor in the Department of Religious Studies and Near and Middle Eastern Civilisations at the University of Toronto, and fellow for a one-month writing residency in May 2026 at the Paris IAS as part of the "Paris IAS Ideas" series.

The "Paris IAS Ideas" online lecture series offers short and stimulating presentations by researchers from the Paris Institute for Advanced Studies, marking the start of their month-long writing residency.

Presentation 

Ethnographically grounded in Lebanon, this project contributes to thinking a global problem: an aging population and how to best care for it. Taking Beirut as a case study, where care in senior homes in a exception, the project seeks to better understand seniors’ own choice as to what they consider a good life, and the effect and shape of the Islamic injunction of injunction of filial piety and care for one’s parents.
