General Presentation

This scientific day is devoted to the launch of the Interdisciplinary Object "MaISoN: Maison des Intelligences Sociales et Numériques." MaISoN is the University of Paris Saclay's mechanism for federating knowledge-building activities (research), sharing and transmitting knowledge (training), and interacting with organizations, institutions and territories (development) among all players in the Saclay ecosystem, with the aim of shedding light on the relationship between social and digital intelligences.

Michael Livermore's abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) has long been a subject of fascination, and writers and thinkers have imaged a range of human futures in an AI-dominated world, from paradise to extinction. With the increasing sophistication and performance of AI models, these imagined futures have begun to inform public policy. But these AI-imaginaries say more about human beings -- our fears and our regrets -- than they do about AI-technology. This talk will explore how we navigate the transition from imagination to reality as the need for real-world AI governance grows.
