Presentation

Humanistic patient care is now defined as ‘patient-centred care’. This refers to healthcare that no longer views patients as passive recipients of a service, but as active participants in the co-production of health, through education and counselling, shared decision-making, and careful consideration of the economic and cultural factors that influence human values in relation to health.

The project identifies the obstacles to achieving this goal by analysing the historical tradition of the medical model, the legacy of systemic and unconscious biases that affect communication and decision-making, and finally the resistance of healthcare systems to the use of self-reported health status by patients.
