Christopher Starke

Christopher Starke works as a post-doctoral researcher for political communication at the Department of Social Sciences at the University of Düsseldorf (Germany) and the Düsseldorf Institute for Internet and Democracy. He obtained his PhD in Communication Research from the University of Münster in 2018 titled ‘United in Diversity? The Effects of Media Identity Framing on Individual European Solidarity’. His current research focuses on algorithmic fairness and artificial intelligence as an anti-corruption tool. Christopher is closely affiliated with the Center of Advanced Internet Studies (CAIS) in Bochum and the Heine Center for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (HeiCAD) in Düsseldorf. He is also member of the Interdisciplinary Corruption Research Network and co-host of KickBack – The Global Anti-Corruption Podcast. In May 2020, he joins the Paris IAS as part of the CAT program.

The project “Corruption and Anti-Corruption in Empirical Research: Critical Reflections on Concepts, Data and Methods” aims to address the challenge of sparse communication between the disciplines and strengthen the advantages of interdisciplinary approaches in corruption research, by facilitating an interdisciplinary Handbook on corruption and anti-corruption in empirical research with critical reflections on (a) the link between conceptualizations and methodological approaches in studying corruption, (b) limitations and benefits of particular data and methods for corruption research and (c) ethical and security-related issues in applying different methods of researching corruption.
