Study day organized by the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BNF) and the Institut national de la recherche scientifique at Montreal (INRS, Montreal) as part of Franco-Quebec cooperation.

Presentation

The aim of this study day is to share French and Quebec expertise on the use of cultural data for the development of artificial intelligence systems. By bringing together institutions from the GLAM sector (libraries, archives, museums, and cultural heritage institutions) and open knowledge actors (notably the Wikimedia movement), it aims to create synergies between public institutions and digital commons actors in order to address shared challenges related to data accessibility, governance, and equity.

The areas for reflection and action addressed as part of this initiative focus on

  • adapting legislative frameworks to the realities of the public domain and the commons,
  • platforms for accessing cultural datasets,
  • developing sustainable and equitable economic models,
  • promoting cultural and linguistic diversity in the Franco-Quebec space.

This study day is part of the Digital Commons and Artificial Intelligence project, funded by the Permanent Commission for Franco-Quebec Cooperation (CPCFQ). The project is co-led by the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF) and the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS, Montreal).

This project is being carried out in collaboration with:
