The research project aims to investigate social invisibility by comparing people who are made invisible against their will (for example, many migrants and refugees) and people who actively engage in willed invisibility (such as courtroom interpreters or academic peer reviewers). What do different kinds of invisibility tell us about how social invisibility is choreographed and accomplished? How is it related to power—and pleasure?
