Presentation

While the rhetoric of war proliferates in the peaceful public sphere in areas that are foreign to it (pandemics, social struggles), on the battlefields of today, the protagonists are silent about the nature of what is taking place there: there is silence about the number of victims, and periphrases refer to "interventions" and "special operations." Everywhere, war remains nameless. Its conflictual dimension is dismissed. Its diffuse nature, in terms of geographical space, people involved, equipment mobilized and practices (economic and information warfare, educational actions), leads to its depoliticization. The war will not take place, or rather has no place. It is everywhere and nowhere. How can war be waged without being declared? Does the spread of war mean the foreclosure of peace? War is no longer just a war of representations, as Foucault asserted after Hobbes, but a war of representations of war. The aim of this study day is to contribute to a philosophy of war, in order to reflect on these representations.
